The general take

Charles Duhigg calls Voidstar a great novel that's fun to read, written by a computer scientist about AI. He finds it particularly relevant given the current AI era, and says it's notable for actually trying to get inside the experience of AI in a way he hasn't seen other writers attempt.

About

In a galaxy where humans are as rare as they are feared, a young man emerges from the stars in search of glory. Ambitious ex-lieutenant Cole is looking for a place to fit in that isn’t behind bars, a place he can be a legend. Amidst his travels he crosses into the Nautus system, cut off and pristine from human interaction. And yet, everyone here’s terrified of him. Why? When he snags a job as a low-ranking officer for Nautus’ war-torn empire, he finds his answer: There’s one other human in this galaxy, at least, that’s what it calls itself. In a terrorist uprising where everything he meets wants him dead, how can Cole trust this pretender and save his new home from an ancient alien menace? The Voidstar Empire Series: Defiance (Prequel story) Valiance Eminence Insurgence (Slated for 2020, sorry I got caught up in too many series at once to finish them all in a timely manner.
