Before that, he spent nearly a decade working as a nightclub promoter in New York City, then volunteered as a photojournalist on a hospital ship off the coast of Liberia, an experience that led him to dedicate his career to ending the global water crisis. He is also the author of the *New York Times* bestselling book *Thirst*.
